The overall objective of a face lift is to lift the skin from the face, tighten up the underlying muscle and then reposition the skin, removing any excess. Jüngere Frauen sind nur selten betroffen, erst ab dem 40. und besonders ab dem 50. Lebensjahr erhöht sich das Risiko und sinkt ab ca. 70 Jahren wieder ab.

Eine derartige Früherkennung ist nur durch die Anwendung bildgebender Verfahren möglich. Hierbei ist die Mammasonographie (Ultraschalluntersuchung der Brust) bei Nutzung geeigneter Geräte durch einen erfahrenen Arzt essentiell. Die Mammographie ist als Komplementäre Bildgebung zur Ultraschalluntersuchung zu betrachten.
